IGNOU Percentage Calculator 2024: Guide with Examples

IGNOU Percentage Calculator 2024 – IGNOU percentage is essential for various reasons such as either to gain admission to some higher programs or for employment purposes. The university does not offer percentages and grades the usual way. You must understand the IGNOU percentage calculation method to work smart and gain a high score. Students who have recently come across their results on the IGNOU portal are also anxious about their percentage.

After IGNOU has released the exam marks, it will soon send you the provisional marksheet through the post. However, this can take up some time, as much as at least 2 to 3 months or even more in some cases. So, one of the best ways is to calculate the percentage on your own.

How to Calculate IGNOU Percentage?

IGNOU calculates percentages by offering weightage to its different elements such as the TEE exams, assignments, and projects. So, you must calculate the percentage according to these elements.

Courses that only have assignments along with TEE have a weightage of 70% in TEE and 30% in assignments. Similarly, some courses also have practicals. In such a case, both theoretical and practical exams are combined to achieve 75% weightage while the assignments in this case will have 25% weightage.

So, when you already know your exam and assignment marks, it is time to calculate the percentage accordingly.

Example of IGNOU Percentage Calculation

Let us explain to you the IGNOU percentage calculation method through suitable examples.

Example 1: Let us first take a subject where you submitted your assignment and appeared in the TEE. For example, you scored these marks

ParticularMarks
IGNOU Term end Exam60
IGNOU Assignment80

So, according to the IGNOU weightage, we will consider:

30% of assignment (30% *80) = 24

70% of TEE (70% *60) = 42

So, the total is 66.

Example 2: Let us now take another example of a subject that comprises assignments, theoretical exams, and practical exams.

Let us assume the marks as:

ParticularMarks
TEE Theory50
TEE Practical60
Assignments80

Now, in this case, the weightage of 75% for TEE and practical combined and 25% for assignment.

75% of TEE Theory + Practical (50+60) = 82.5

25% of Assignments (25%*80) = 20

So, the total is 102.5.

Now, when you have the accumulated marks for each subject, you just have to total them and then divide the total by the number of subjects you appeared for.

Suppose, you have appeared in 2 subjects that we have assumed as Example 1 and Example 2.

So, the total percentage will be (Example 1 + Example 2)/2

(66 + 102.5)/2 = 84%

Tips and Considerations on Calculating IGNOU Percentage

If you are calculating your IGNOU percentage, you must consider some of these essential tips to avoid confusion.

  • Double-check your marks on the IGNOU official portal first to get the correct numbers.
  • Use the correct weightage such as 70% for TEE and 30% for assignments.
  • The weightage of the assignments will be different if you have practicals.
  • Make a table to put all the figures and calculate comfortably and to avoid any errors.
  • The percentage offered by the university can be slightly different depending on various factors.

Getting the IGNOU percentage is essential because the marking system by the university is different than most universities in India. The weightage system makes the entire grading system unique. So, you must know how to calculate the consolidated mark of each subject and then the total percentage. You can temporarily calculate the percentage on your own and can use it as a reference. However, the university will reveal the actual percentage by sending provisional mark sheets by post. So, you can cross check your calculated percentage as soon as you get it.
